Why Concrete Is the Best Choice for Retaining Walls

Built to Withstand Pressure

Concrete doesn’t warp, rot, or fall apart. It holds up against pressure from soil, water, and time.

Low Maintenance

Once installed, a concrete retaining wall needs very little care. Just basic drainage and occasional cleaning.

Clean, Modern Look

Concrete gives you a neat finish that works with any landscape or home style—no stacking blocks, no shifting pieces.

Our Retaining Wall Installation Process

Site Evaluation

We check the slope, soil, and layout to plan for stability and drainage. Every wall we build is designed to last.

Excavation and Prep

We dig out the area, set a solid base, and install any required drainage to relieve pressure behind the wall.

Forming and Pouring

Forms are built to shape the wall, and concrete is poured in with reinforcing steel for added strength.

Finishing and Curing

After the concrete is poured, we finish the surface and allow for proper curing time so the wall sets strong.

How We Make Walls That Last

Since 2019, MC Concrete PDX LLC has handled concrete flatwork with one goal—get it done right the first time. We’re a family-run company, owned and operated by Martin Castro and his brother. With over 5 years of experience, we know how to build retaining walls that hold up to Oregon weather and tough terrain.

We don’t guess. We don’t cut corners. We build walls that work.

A Reliable Wall Starts With the Right Crew

Not every wall is created equal. What matters is how it’s built, who’s behind the work, and whether the crew takes their time to do it right. At MC Concrete PDX LLC, we don’t rush jobs or rely on guesswork. Every pour, form, and finish is done with purpose. We treat small residential walls the same way we treat larger jobs—with a sharp eye and a strong work ethic. We take pride in the results we leave behind because we know our name is on it.

Maintenance Tips for Your Concrete Retaining Wall

Keep the Drainage Clear

Every retaining wall needs a way for water to escape. Make sure the drainpipes or gravel weep holes stay clear.

Don’t Let Roots Take Over

Keep trees and large plants away from the wall base. Roots can shift soil and crack the concrete over time.

Inspect Annually

Once a year, check for signs of cracking or movement. If anything looks off, give us a call—we’ll take a look.

Avoid Heavy Loads Above

Don’t park vehicles or place heavy objects right at the top edge of the wall. It adds stress and shortens its life.

FAQs—Common Questions About Retaining Walls

  • How tall can a retaining wall be?

Most residential retaining walls stay under 4 feet. Taller walls may require engineering or permits.

  • Do I need a permit?

It depends on the height and location. We’ll let you know if your job needs one.

  • How long will a concrete retaining wall last?

With proper drainage and care, concrete walls can last 50 years or more.

  • Will the wall crack over time?

We reinforce every wall and use control joints to manage cracking, but small hairline cracks can still appear. They don’t affect performance.

  • Can I customize the look of the wall?

Yes. We offer smooth, textured, or decorative finishes to match your style.
